Doris Baltruschat is a teacher and media producer. She has an MA in mass communications from the University of Leicester, U.K., and is currently completing her PhD thesis about global media production (coproductions and formats) in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University, Canada. Other research interests include: globalization and culture, interactive media, social movements, and media education. She has published articles on these topics in various books and journals, including Media Organization and Production (Sage Publications, 2003), the Canadian Journal of Communication, and the International Journal of the Humanities.
Shenid Bhayroo is doctoral candidate and instructor at the Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. He earned his MA from LSU and his BA in journalism from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. He has worked as a producer covering the South Africa’s postapartheid Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings and was an investigative journalist for South Africa’s public broadcaster, the South African Broadcasting Corporation. Bhayroo has also worked as a freelance producer, video editor, and cameraperson, and he has taught courses in audiovisual communication at the University of Johannesburg.
Susan Christopherson is a professor in the Department of City and Regional Planning at Cornell University. Her work focuses on employment and location trends in the visual media industries and their implications for economic development. Her U.S. work in this area began in the mid-1980s when she was a professor at UCLA and published research from a major study on the question of “Runaway Production,” supported by the Los Angeles-based Haynes Foundation.
