Online Intersex Communities:

I first wish to thank Toni Tan, who has patiently and expertly guided me as the book took form, went through revisions, and finally was made ready for publication. Along those lines, the feedback of peer reviewers, who offered critical input on how this book should be better, was much appreciated, and I owe a great debt.

This book, at least an early version of it, began in 2003 at the University of South Dakota where I worked with Susan Wolfe. She’s been a friend and mentor for many years and her initial ideas, as well as revisions of my early attempts to formulate a thesis on the subject, were instrumental. You can’t do anything without good teachers.

Amy Koerber read the book after its first round of review and her evaluation was extraordinarily useful, helping me to sharpen my argument especially as it related to the rhetorical and cultural analysis of the selected intersex Web sites.
