About the Author
Chen Li is a prolific poet, essayist, and translator from Hualien, Taiwan. After graduating from the English Department of National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, he returned to his hometown and taught at a junior high school. He also taught creative writing at universities in Taiwan. An author of fifteen poetry volumes so far, Chen Li is arguably the boldest poet who experiments with the form and sound of the Chinese language. He has received a Taiwan National Award for Literature and the Arts, a Taiwan Literature Award, and many other literary prizes. His work has been translated into English, French, Spanish, Dutch, German, Croatian, Italian, Japanese, and Korean. Chen Li and his wife Chang Fen-ling were the first to introduce Latin American poetry to Taiwan through translation. In collaboration with Chang, he has translated the poetry of Matsuo Bash?, Carol Ann Duffy, Robert Hass, Seamus Heaney, Brenda Hillman, Kobayashi Issa, Gabriela Mistral, Pablo Neruda, Octavio Paz, Sylvia Plath, Nelly Sachs, Wis?awa Szymborska, and others into Chinese.
About the Translator
Elaine Wong holds a PhD in English at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Wong teaches at Trinity University, San Antonio, while working on translation projects of poetry and fiction from Taiwan.
